University Musical Society is offering a free sensory friendly open rehearsal
featuring the Takács Quartet on Saturday, January 21
at Rackham Auditorium in Ann Arbor.
This season, the world-renowned Takács Quartet is performing all 16 of Beethoven’s string quartets in only four venues worldwide. In Ann Arbor, the complete cycle will be performed over six concerts in the 2016-17 UMS season.
During this free open rehearsal, the ensemble will present excerpts from the Beethoven string quartets that will be performed that weekend in two public performances at Rackham Auditorium.
WHAT MAKES THIS EVENT SENSORY FRIENDLY?
This sensory-friendly event is modified to accommodate individuals with sensory-input disorders, such as people on the autism spectrum, those with anxiety, and people with a range of cognitive abilities.
At the open rehearsal, you will notice relaxed “house rules.” People may need to get up, move around, and leave the theater during the rehearsal.
There is no expectation that the audience will be completely quiet during the event.Our volunteers will be available throughout the rehearsal to help you if you have any questions.
Our goal is to create an environment where people with autism or sensory needs, along with their families, can enjoy live world-class music together and will feel comfortable, supported, and free to be themselves.
We welcome anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed concert environment, including people with autism and their families and caregivers, but also anyone with other sensory-input disorders, cognitive issues, or memory loss.
