Staff at the Ann Arbor CIL encourage unapologetic wholeness, and you can see this exemplified with all constituents. The strength of the whole community -staff, counselors, and peers- are helping me to say, with spunk, think what you will. I have both visible and invisible disabilities. Peers at the CIL are inclusive and welcoming, most recently at the Diversability Theater activity I attended. Historically for me, having invisible health disabilities meant constantly defending my right to have specialized needs or accommodations. One wonderful thing CIL counseling has done is to not assume everyone has the same goals. We have been talking about what excites me and nourishes me, what aligns with my goals and values. I got counseling about more financial independence and addressing my own barriers and discomfort with a label. I have had a substantial change for the better since working with the CIL.
