Camp Counselor

This role supports DNWML’s summer camp. Camp New Horizons is a summer camp for youth with disabilities ages 14-26. Counselors will create a fun, safe, and engaging environment by supervising campers, leading activities, enforcing camp guidelines and norms, manage daily routines and handling basic first aid.
Pay and Qualifications
Pay:
Pay is: $18/hour at 32 hours/week.
CPR Training included in position, if not already certified.
 
Weekly Schedule:
  • Monday-Thursday
    • Each day focuses on a different theme, including visual arts, performing arts, and sports.
    • Each day will have planned activities centered around a theme, with larger, more in-depth activities led by a specialist (senior counselor or camp partner.)
  • 8:00am-3:30/4:00pm (depending on when last camper is picked up)
Daily Schedule:
  • Camper Drop-off – 8:00-8:30am
  • Lunch – 11:00am-12:00pm
  • Camper Pick-up – 3:00-3:30pm
Camp Counselor Job Responsibilities:
  • Leads and implements camp programs for youth with disabilities.
  • Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for campers.
  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
  • Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
  • Facilitates lesson plans for daily activities.
  • Organizes and leads various small and large group activities.
  • Works alongside summer camp partners to faciliate planned programming.
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the site.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports and daily attendance.
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Administers basic first aid as needed. Contacts parents/guardians if necessary.
  • Awareness of campers’ dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures meal time safety.
  • Mediates any campers’ disputes.
  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your campers at all times.

Arts Facilitator

An Art Facilitator plans, develops, and leads art programs, teaching various media (painting, pottery, digital art) to different age groups, ensuring a safe, inclusive environment, managing supplies, and often coordinating events, exhibitions, or outreach, requiring strong creative, communication, and organizational skills for roles in schools, community centers, or galleries.

Pay and Qualifications
Pay: $18/hour
Schedule: TBD based on participants and instructor, as needed/scheduled

Reports to: Arts & Recreation Manager

Core Responsibilities:
  • Instruction & Curriculum: Develop and teach art classes (drawing, sculpture, design, etc.), provide demonstrations, offer critiques, and adapt lessons for diverse learners.
  • Program Management: Plan and execute art events, workshops, or gallery exhibitions, coordinating with other staff or volunteers.
  • Environment & Safety: Maintain a healthy, safe, and inspiring art space, supervising participants and ensuring proper use of equipment and materials.
  • Resource Management: Oversee art supplies, equipment, and inventory, making purchasing recommendations.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with students, parents, colleagues, and community members, potentially handling social media and public relations for art programs.

Primary Duties for the Arts Facilitator
Position Summary:
Effectively plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate programs, workshops, activities and/or special events that engage community members in the performing, applied, visual & digital arts
  • Visual Arts – Visual arts can be considered traditional fines arts and may include painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, collage, mixed media, illustration, and more.
  • Digital Arts – Two- or three-dimensional visual media that uses computers and other technology as an essential part of the creative process. This may include graphic design, animation, photography, movie making, Claymation, game design, music composition and digital illustration.
  • Performing Arts – Performance including playing instruments, acting, singing, and dancing. This includes performance support roles, such as creating scenery, costumes, lighting, and sound manipulation.
  • Applied Arts – Any art form that applies artistic design to functional objects. This includes industrial design, bookmaking, illustration, printmaking, jewelry making, wood working, ceramics, fashion design, creative writing, and commercial art.
Primary Duties:
